My Top Ten Films of All Time

What's a film review blog without a top ten list?  Here's my list of top ten movies of all time, it's rare I ever make changes to the top ten, but 11 to 20 swap around all the time and therefore I'm just sticking to the top ten.

Terror Toys Season Overview

This is a spoiler free overview of Terror Toys Season, containing a short summary of each film with their marks out of 10 posted along side.  This is so you can take a look and decide if you want to see the film for yourself without reading the spoilers in the main reviews.  If I watch any additional Terror Toys movies in the future, I will add them to this list.  Movies will be listed worst to best.

The doll they should be making movies about.

Child's Play 3 - Terror Toys Season

Released only 9 months after after Child's Play 2 in 1991 and had a tag line of "Look Who's Stalking!"  This is the one which was very controversial here in the UK after the James Bulger case, and even though later it was proved to have no connection the damage had already been done and a lot of shops and video rental places voluntarily removed the title from their shelves.

Dolly Dearest - Terror Toys Season

This is one of those movies that even when you're doing the basic research (avoiding spoilers of course), you suspect that it might not be great.  Filmed over the course of a month in 1990, Dolly Dearest was released straight to video in 1992.  According to the wiki blurb at the top of the page it stars Rip Torn and Denise Crosby and I'm guessing it was only the Next Gen fans who bought this film on that basis.

Puppet Master 2 - Terror Toys Season

In 1992, Full Moon Features released their sequel to Puppet Master, Puppet Master 2, once again produced by Charles Band.  The film was still released straight to video and apparently has had some trouble with being released on DVD, originally only available as part of a box set until 2007 when Full Moon reaquired the rights to the first five movies.

True Blood season 4 review - Me and the Devil

It's the time of the week where I sit at my laptop, load up the latest episode of True Blood and agonise over whether or not it did the book justice.  Plenty of other reviewers deal in the plot of the episode, I deal with the reactions to what's happening from a book readers perspective.  Just because I'm a fanatical fan of the books and no one else seems to do this.

Warning, this review contains spoilers for both the episode and the entire book series where applicable.

Child's Play 2 - Terror Toys Season

Child's Play 2 was released in 1990, two years after the original film.  It did well in terms of box office revenue and was received well by fans.  Alex Vincent returns as Andy and Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, as far as I am aware from the blurb at the top of wikipedia, they are the only returning cast members, but this was the film which sparked a huge merchandise push for the franchise.

Demonic Toys - Terror Toys Season

1992 was the year that this straight-to-video film was released under the banner of Full Moon Entertainment.  Charles Band the producer, who I suspect has issues looking at the list of films he's been involved with, was also the producer of Puppet Master and Dollman, which I sadly couldn't get a copy of.  It did well enough to warrant a sequel and two crossovers, Demonic Toys 2: Personal Demons, Dollman vs Demonic Toys and Puppet Master vs Demonic toys.  There was also a collector card set and four issue comic book tie-in.

Puppet Master - Terror Toys Season

Originally intended to be released in cinemas during the summer, writer/producer Charles Band felt it would make more money on the home video market and so Puppet Master was released straight to video in October 1988.  The film did well and nine sequels followed along with talks of a remake, which has yet to come to anything.

Child's Play - Terror Toys Season

Child's Play, the first film of the famous "Chucky Franchise", was released in 1988 and managed to make back about 4 times it's budget, even with controversy surrounding it.  It stars the voice talent of the insanely underrated Brad Dourif and now has a strong cult following with merchandise still being produced 23 years after the original film was released.

Black Water - review (Killer Croc Season)

To be fair, I should have read more about this one before I did my Rogue review, but it was a last minute replacement as I couldn't get a copy of Crocodile.  Black Water was released in 2007, the same year as Rogue, it's also an Australian film, based in the Northern Territories, also in a mangrove swamp and it's also based on a true story, which you can read here.  Now that Rogue has set the bar for Australian giant crocodile movies, we'll see what Black Water brings to the table.

Mega Shark versus Crocosaurus - review (Killer Croc Season)

In 2009, The Asylum made a movie called Mega Shark versus Giant Octopus, I haven't actually seen this movie, but I did watch a review for it from Bad Movie Beatdown.  In 2010, they made a follow up with tenuous connections to the original film called Mega Shark versus Crocosaurus and the vague crocness of the Crocosaurus landed it on my list of giant crocodile movies.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator - review (Killer Croc Season)

Oh boy.  Well, I'm not entirely sure why I'm doing this to myself, but this one is going to be a doozey.  In 2004, famous B-movie maker, Roger Corman produced a movie for the Sci-fi channel called Dinocroc, about a genetically recreated Suchomimus, spliced with a modern crocodile, escaping from a lab and terrorising the locals.  Roger Corman wanted to make a sequel, Dinocroc 2, but the Sci-Fi channel told him that sequels didn't do well for them.  Roger Corman, being awesome, decided to make it anyway, but changed the name, that film became Supergator, this time about a genetically recreated Deinosuchus, escaping from a lab and terrorising locals.  Realising that Roger Corman is a crazy awesome lunatic who cannot be stopped, Sci-Fi eventually caved on the sequels and in 2010, Corman produced Dinocroc vs. Supergator.

Rogue - review (Killer Croc Season)

Rogue is a 2007 Australian horror film, which only made four and a half million back on it's twenty five million (Australian) dollar budget.  I was saving it for later, but I was basically very impatient and decided to just go ahead and watch it now.  I have generally had good experiences with Australian cinema, my favourites include Strictly Ballroom, Muriel's Wedding (I know it's a chick flick, but I like it, ok?), Black sheep and Gabriel, so because of this I have hope that this one might actually be good.

True Blood season 4 review - I'm Alive and On Fire

Monday, Monday, so good to me.  It gives me Leverage, True Blood and Linkara, but today we're just here to see what happens as a Southern Vampire Mysteries fanatic watches the latest episode of True Blood.

Warning, spoilers for both the episode and entire book series where appropriate

Lake Placid 3 - review (Killer Croc Season)

Lake Placid was released in 1999 to mixed reviews, but was a box office success.  Audiences enjoyed it's mix of horror and humour, it had good effects and a great cast.  This, however, is Lake Placid 3 a 2010 made for Sci-Fi/Syfy low budget sequel.

I can't be the only person who thinks there should be a comma in that tag line...

Anouncement - it's monster movie season!

I've been flitting around a bit here and there with the genres of the movies I've been covering, but I've decided to have a monster movie season.

Shadow man - review part 2

Let's jump right back in.

Midnight Heat - review

Brad Jones of The Cinema Snob and Thatguywiththeglasses, has over the years produced a number of films by guerilla film making.  Being a fan of CinemaSnob and other TGWTG reviewers, when he anounced he was uploading Midnight Heat to his website, I had to give it a watch.

Shadow Man - review part 1

Whilst desperately putting off watching Generation X (I will get to it, I swear) I asked the advice of fellow British person, Film Brain (aka Matthew Buck) of Bad Movie Beatdown, via twitter, for a bad movie to watch.  He gave me two words, Shadow Man.

Fast Five - review

Released ten years after the original film Fast Five or The Fast and The Furious Five, is, unsurprisingly, the fifth instalment of the Franchise.  Following on from it's predecessors The Fast and the Furious (2001), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and Fast & Furious (2009), this film reunites the original cast core cast members and adds Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to it's roster.

Some True Blood tie-in websites

I'll add to the list if I discover anymore, but here are a couple of sites which officially tie in with True Blood, they have some good content worth checking out.

Vamps-kill - Videos of possible vamp attacks, kinda fun.

Fellowship of the Sun - Worth having a good look through, articles, videos, fake ads for True Blood

Baby Vamp Jessica - Jessica's Blog and Vlog, occasionally guests in other cast members, ties in with latest episodes and goes back to Jessica's introduction to the show.

True Blood season 4 review - If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?

It's that time of the week again where I load up the new episode of True Blood and give my blow by blow account of my reactions to the episode as I watch it.  So far the season has not shaped up as good as season 3 was, however, it's still got plenty of time to redeem itself and if worst comes to worst I have the new episode of Leverage lined up to watch afterwards.

This review will contain spoilers for the episode and for the entire book series if something in the episode is relevant to the plot.

X-Men First Class - review

I have a totally legal and not at all downloaded copy of X-Men First Class, since I avoided it at the cinema I decided that I should probably do a blow by blow review.  I've had people say it was great and people say it was terrible so I suppose I shall see for myself.

Warning this review contains spoilers

The Deer Hunter - review

I made a new year's resolution to watch films which I'd never seen, but are considered classics.  During this venture I've watched such films as, It's a wonderful life, Casablanca, 2001 a space odyssey and Planet of the Apes.  Last night I watched The Deer Hunter for the first time, this is my review.

True Blood season 4 review - You Smell like Dinner

Another week, another episode, it's time for my blow by blow account of episode 2 of season 4, I'm not as excited as last week after the wtfuckery, so I've lined up Leverage for afters in case I need cheering up.

A remind, this review will contain spoilers for both the tv show and the books if it is appropriate to mention.

True Blood season 4 review - She's not there

Since I'm a huge True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries fan, I decided to do a blow by blow review of my reactions to the new series as I watch the episodes.  This is for two reasons, one to spare my twitter followers a million and one tweets, two because I've read all the books and so I have certain expectations.

Warning this review will contain spoilers from the show and spoilers from anything relevant that pops up in any of the 11 books or the short story compilations.

Survival of the Dead - review

Survival of the dead is the latest installment in the Romero Zombie cannon.  It falls in line with Night, Dawn, Day, Land and Diary.  Of his most recent movies, it's had the worst reviews.  Personally I really enjoyed Land of the Dead (they said the Z word), Diary of the Dead I thought was terrible.  Survival is Romero's chance to impress me.

West is West - review

West is West is the sequel to the 1999 British film, East is East.  East is East is a comedy film, set in the early 1970's of a Manchester council estate about a mixed race family of half Pakistani, half English kids who deal with life in the 70's, teenage crushes, racist stereotypes and the struggling of trying to find a way to fit in with both their Islamic culture and traditionalist father and English way of life and loyal, yet forgiving mother.  It was a break away smash hit which was instantly loved by British audiences.

Nine Dead - review

There are some bad movies you watch for the sheer joy of how truly abyssmal they are, the kind of movies that MST3K took great joy in riffing over the years.  Nine Dead is not one of these movies.  It's just awful.  An awful, awful movie.

Black Dagger Brotherhood: Dark Lover - review

Here are the series of events which lead me to this book, you can skip ahead to the actual review part if you wish, but I couldn't really address how I came across this book without a little background first.

The Devil's Chair review

Have you ever bought a movie because it was £2 in the bargain bin at ASDA, put it on your video shelf and then left it there for 6 months before actually watching it?  Well this is how I came across The Devil's chair.

Fun fact, the pre-production was only two weeks, 3 days of which they spent writing the script.

Warning thar be spoilers in this review
