Killer Crocodile - A Killer Crocodile Movie

Killer Crocodile is an apt, if unimaginatively named Killer Crocodile, Italian horror movie from 1989.  I hadn't even heard about this one even when doing my research first time around for Killer Crocodile Season.  I stumbled across the title quite by accident while looking into something else, so of course I had to share.

Alligator - A Killer Crocodile Movie

Alligator is a 1980 Killer Crocodile movie, I did want to cover it during Killer Crocodile Season, but at the time I was unable to acquire a copy, so I'm covering it now.  According to some circles, it's supposed to be the JAWS of giant crocodile movies, but I shall be the judge of that.

House Call - Review

House Call is a short film by writer/director Erik L. Wilson.  You can view the trailer for it, here, but it probably won't be available for the general public until it has gone to a few festivals first, for the purposes of reviewing the movie, I was provided with an online screener by Erik L. Wilson.

Hostel Part 3 - Review

Hostel Part 3 was released straight to dvd on December the 27th 2011, much to the surprise of almost everyone.  Eli Roth, the writer/director of the first two instalments had, to my knowledge, zero involvement with this movie and your mileage may vary on whether or not this is a good thing.

My Top Ten - The Best and Worst Films of 2011

Which films tickled my funny bone or made me squee like a little fangirl and which films made me nerd rage or simply go, meh...

I actually did a list for 2010 before I started this blog, at some point I may even get around to posting it, but for now, this is my 2011 list.  There are some things to note, I could only include films which I've actually seen, so if your favourite film of the year, or most hated film of the year isn't included, it's possible that I haven't got around to seeing it yet.

Sorority Row - Kill the College Kids Season

Sorority Row is a 2009 remake of the movie The House on Sorority Row, it stars Rumer Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.  It did moderately well in the box office, but received mixed critical reviews.

Hoodwinked Too: Hood VS Evil - Review

Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs Evil, aka Hoodwinked 2, is the sequel to the 2005, Hoodwinked!  A movie which I saw on dvd and eagerly awaited the sequel, as non-disney, non-pixar, good animated films are hard to come by these days.

The Last Minute - Review

The Last Minute is a little known 2001 film by director Stephen Norrington, (Blade, The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen.)  It played at Cannes, the Moscow Film Festival, the Sitges Film Festival and the Hawaii Film Festival and that's just about all I can tell you as the wiki page is a stub and the IMDB page has no useful information.

Cool World - Review

Cool World is a 1992 live action/animated film starring Brad Pitt, Gabriel Byrne and Kim Basinger.  It was a box office flop, failing to recoup it's budget by a significant amount and is the last film directed by rotoscoping, Lord of the Rings director, Ralph Bakshi, who retired in 1997.

The Phantom of the Opera (1989) - Review

If there was ever a movie to accuse of being a shameless cash-in on another franchise, it's this movie.  Look at that poster, the first couple of times I looked at it I thought it was just another Freddy box cover, I wasn't looking at the title, I was looking at the picture, you can imagine how many people might have bought or rented it thinking the same thing.

Swamp Shark - Review

Swamp Shark premièred on the Sci Fi/SyFy channel on the 25th of June 2011, so of course this is a totally legal and not at all illegally downloaded copy of the movie, *Brownies honour*.  It stars Kristy Swanson (of Buffy movie fame) and DB Sweeney who you will recognise from that thing you saw him in one time.  Also that guy who was the strip club owner in Showgirls, you know, that guy.

Fargo - Review

Fargo is a 1996 film released by the Cohen brothers, Joel and Ethan.  It was nominated for several Academy Awards and took home two for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress.  It was made on a tiny budget of  $7 million US dollars, which is only about $1 million more than The Room and look what Tommy Wiseau achieved!

Cool as Ice - Review

Cool as Ice was released in 1991 as a vehicle intended to launch a film career for Vanilla Ice, instead it almost killed his career.  The film was poorly received and Vanilla Ice wouldn't release another album until 1994 which was poorly received, and he wouldn't start to regain any respect from the industry until his 2001 album.  Though he did retain a loyal fanbase, it was small, but enough for him to keep working until the present day where he has enjoyed something of a nostalgia revival.

Child's Play 3 - Terror Toys Season

Released only 9 months after after Child's Play 2 in 1991 and had a tag line of "Look Who's Stalking!"  This is the one which was very controversial here in the UK after the James Bulger case, and even though later it was proved to have no connection the damage had already been done and a lot of shops and video rental places voluntarily removed the title from their shelves.

Dolly Dearest - Terror Toys Season

This is one of those movies that even when you're doing the basic research (avoiding spoilers of course), you suspect that it might not be great.  Filmed over the course of a month in 1990, Dolly Dearest was released straight to video in 1992.  According to the wiki blurb at the top of the page it stars Rip Torn and Denise Crosby and I'm guessing it was only the Next Gen fans who bought this film on that basis.

Puppet Master 2 - Terror Toys Season

In 1992, Full Moon Features released their sequel to Puppet Master, Puppet Master 2, once again produced by Charles Band.  The film was still released straight to video and apparently has had some trouble with being released on DVD, originally only available as part of a box set until 2007 when Full Moon reaquired the rights to the first five movies.

Child's Play 2 - Terror Toys Season

Child's Play 2 was released in 1990, two years after the original film.  It did well in terms of box office revenue and was received well by fans.  Alex Vincent returns as Andy and Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, as far as I am aware from the blurb at the top of wikipedia, they are the only returning cast members, but this was the film which sparked a huge merchandise push for the franchise.

Demonic Toys - Terror Toys Season

1992 was the year that this straight-to-video film was released under the banner of Full Moon Entertainment.  Charles Band the producer, who I suspect has issues looking at the list of films he's been involved with, was also the producer of Puppet Master and Dollman, which I sadly couldn't get a copy of.  It did well enough to warrant a sequel and two crossovers, Demonic Toys 2: Personal Demons, Dollman vs Demonic Toys and Puppet Master vs Demonic toys.  There was also a collector card set and four issue comic book tie-in.

Puppet Master - Terror Toys Season

Originally intended to be released in cinemas during the summer, writer/producer Charles Band felt it would make more money on the home video market and so Puppet Master was released straight to video in October 1988.  The film did well and nine sequels followed along with talks of a remake, which has yet to come to anything.

Child's Play - Terror Toys Season

Child's Play, the first film of the famous "Chucky Franchise", was released in 1988 and managed to make back about 4 times it's budget, even with controversy surrounding it.  It stars the voice talent of the insanely underrated Brad Dourif and now has a strong cult following with merchandise still being produced 23 years after the original film was released.
